The Third Time is Charming

Over the course of the past 9-plus years doing this business we have failed to make a set up only twice; once because we absolutely could not find the house and once because the display would have damaged the recipient's property. Only twice, until this morning. This morning we were chased off.

As we pulled up to the address at 2:00am, I saw the porch light go out. That wasn't cause for alarm because some lights are triggered by motion sensors that pick up passing vehicles and we had driven by while locating the house. Then I heard a screen door close just as I was getting out of the van. That gave me pause, so as I was sliding the sign out I tried to detect anyone watching from the house. Couldn't see anything. But then - a voice. A less than friendly voice, growled from the dark doorway "I'm watching you! What are you doing! Do you want me to call the police!?!" This last wasn't a question.

Our response that we were Flamimgo Surprise; "I don't like flamingos!" and were delivering an anniversary greeting "Keep it!" didn't make us any more welcome. I assured her that we wouldn't bother her any longer "Good!". So this 50th anniversary will not be commemorated with a yard full of hearts.

We'd been told there were two dogs in the house. They never made a peep. Didn't need to, their mistress barks loud enough on her own. The man of the house wasn't heard from either - 50 years?!

that's sad! Our local Jaycees use to put flamingos on a yard (you had to pay to get them removed). My daughter wanted to "keep them" when they landed here.

Now, the Canadian Geese come for free and you can't pay to get them removed.

Thanks for visiting my blog! :)

Ya know, I have a story you'll love. I lived in Celebration Florida, a planned community designed by Disney with very strict codes. And someone was going around planting wonderful pink Flamingoes in people's yards in the dead of night, just to shake things up. I loved it. It turned out to be the pastor of the church, which cracked me up.
The world needs more silliness. As Oscar Wilde said, "Life is too important to be taken seriously."

I'd welcome you with open arms. It's a wonder the moron made it to 50 years. What a curmudgeon!

(Do you still get paid if you get chased off? Fairness dictates that you should be...the nerve of some people!)
