Ride Along

We had the privilege to have a writer with the East Bay Express call to ask if she could come along on a delivery run with us. It took me about 2 nanoseconds to say "Yes!" She specifically wanted to witness a flamingoing and fortunately one of the displays scheduled for that very night was the pink plastic American icon. We agreed that she would arrive at the warehouse at 1:00am to start our rounds.

The first delivery turned out to be a bit of a challenge. The house was in a gated community. The guard at the gate closest to the target yard wouldn't let us in. I called the sender and woke her (for the second time this early morning). She reconfirmed that the home owner had given our name to security. Once the guard realized we weren't just going to go away, he got on the phone to the other gate. Then he sent us around to try there. We drove up to the second gate and were met with a big smile and were let right in. Why one guard would let us in and the other wouldn't is one of the small mysteries inherent in the flocking business. Once we finally got to the target yard, we put Kara (the writer) to work with us and finished in moments.

The trip to the flamingo set up went without a hitch. A nice flat, relatively well lit yard. The inside dog we were warned about slept soundly through the planting and the photos and we escaped undetected. By about 3:00am Kara was on her way home to grab a little sleep before work.

I can't wait to see the article. The Flamingess loves to see her little enterprise in the media.
